ConsERT
The Consortium of Eastern Regional Theatres, Inc. (ConsERT) is a non-profit collective of performing arts centers and presenters, historic theatres, agents, concert promoters and industry vendors. ConsERT meets regularly to compare notes, discuss industry trends, develop solutions to common problems and create programming opportunities. The mission of ConsERT is to advance the empowerment of member eastern presenters and venues through regional cooperation and representation, and an open exchange of information. During the pandemic ConsERT began a series of weekly Town Hall Zoom meetings (since re-scheduled to once every two weeks) and they are a great opportunity to share information and ideas. Highly recommended.

Jessica Sherr: Bette Davis Ain't For Sissies
Bette Davis Ain't For Sissies
Internationally-acclaimed one-woman show Bette Davis Ain’t For Sissies will stream LIVE at OnTheStage.com from July 15-September 24.
Written and performed by Jessica Sherr (Blue Bloods, Annie, Claws), this new 90-minute live streaming version is directed for the small screen by Karen Carpenter (Harry Townsend's Last Stand, Love Loss and What I Wore). The production also features Bette Davis' scarf and gloves, which were a gift from Bette Davis Estate to wear in the show.
In Bette Davis Ain't For Sissies, Sherr channels 31-year-old Bette Davis' fight against the male-dominated studio system. On the night of the 1939 Oscars, Bette Davis returns home knowing she's to lose Best Actress to Vivien Leigh's Scarlett O'Hara, because the press has leaked the winners. Davis takes us on the bumpy ride of her tumultuous rise, as the tenacious actress fights her way through the studio system to the top. Witness Bette triumph over misogyny to win roles and compensation on par with her male counterparts. See what happens when someone who always wins...loses.
Tickets are $18.00 each (not including service fees), available at www.BetteDavisAintForSissiesTix.com. Performance times are:
Thursday, August 27 - 7:30pm EDT
Thursday, September 10 - 7:30pm EDT

WatchLive Service Program
WATCHLIVE©, in partnership with Vimeo, is a new concept that utilizes cutting edge technology to deliver live streaming performances.
WATCHLIVE© allows audiences to be able to continue enjoying the performing arts while practicing safe social distancing.
Developed by the creator of Ticketron, WATCHLIVE© benefits everyone in the performing arts industry by restoring live performances, retaining jobs, and restoring cash flow to venues and performers. The project works with artists through their agencies to live stream performances that are made available to concert presenters to market to their audiences. Presenters are able to promote and sell link access for online concerts staged in venues with approved socially distanced reduced audiences. Performers can choose to remain on stage after the performance for a TV-style town hall where the audience watching will be able to text questions in a meet and greet session.
Some New Organizations
National Independent Talent Organization Logo
National Independent Talent Organization
The National Independent Talent Organization is a non-profit group initially formed by like-minded independent talent agencies (and soon thereafter expanded to encompass independent management companies) for the purpose of promoting the welfare and prosperity of its members and their represented artists, as well as for the indirect benefit of those associated with them. NITO welcomes a broad coalition of the live music ecosystem.
From the point of inception, NITO has been working tirelessly to advocate for the survival of the live music community as the nation and economy slowly recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Talent Agents and Managers represent and work for the artists and are the direct conduit between the Artists and the countless people whose livelihoods depend on one another: Publicists, Social Media Managers, Promoters and their staff, Travel Agents, Record Companies, Tour and Production Managers, Sound, Lighting and Backline Technicians, Riggers, Gaffers, Truck and Bus Drivers, Freight Companies, Venue Staff (Box Office, Ticket Takers, Ushers, Security, Concessionaires, Caterers, Marketers, Stagehands, Loaders, Hospitality, Runners, Local Transport, Janitorial), Accounting, Airlines, Hotels, Rental Vehicles, and Ticketing Companies, etc.
NITO's 14 founding small independent businesses currently represent approximately 2,000 artists. In 2019, collectively, more than 40,000 concerts were booked by NITO's members across the U.S. with over 12.5 million tickets sold, generating in excess of half a billion dollars in gross ticket sales annually. The additional financial impact of these performances on surrounding communities is over $1 billion. While it is still unknown when it will be safe to experience the thrill of a concert in person again, NITO will continue their efforts on behalf of the artists they represent and their role as the engine that helps to employ and support all of those who depend on their work. NITO will fight to keep this community alive until it's safe again to gather with friends and other fans to share these experiences that are some of the best moments of our lives.
National Independent Venue Association Logo
National Independent Venue Association
The National Independent Venue Association, based in New York, though just formed, has nearly 2,000 charter members in all 50 states. NIVA's mission is to preserve and nurture the ecosystem of independent live music venues and promoters throughout the United States. These entertainment hubs are critical to their local economies and tax bases as employers, tourism destinations, and revenue generators for neighboring businesses such as restaurants, hotels, and retail. Independent venues exist in every state across the country; they were the first to be closed, they will be the last to open.

New BAM! Pocket Guide Available Now
Pocket Guide to U.S. Tax Withholding for Artists
A new BAM! Pocket Guide is now available, to assist with dealing with the regulatory 15% Tax Withholding for non-resident artists performing in Canada. The BAM! Pocket Guide to Canadian Tax Withholding for Artists is a valuable guide to artists on how to deal with a waiver of the tax withholding, including obtaining a TIN or BN, forms required, and all options for artists.
If you have any questions/concerns about U.S. tax matters for non-resident artists performing in the United States (or Canada), feel free to contact Robert: robert@bairdartists.com, 416-887-2151 (Cell), 1-800-867-3281 (Toll-free North America), 705-424-6507 (Land line).

Terminology Clarification:
Simplified R-105
Magnifying Glass with Book
The CRA has created a simplified process for self-employed non-resident artists and athletes earning money for performances in Canada. If you are a non-resident artist or an athlete providing services in Canada for a fee and will earn no more than CAN$15,000 during the calendar year, you can use the simplified process to cut down on paperwork, as well as reduce or eliminate the tax withheld on your earnings in Canada.
Laughing Face
Your Monthly Chuckle
I love a good joke and wanted to share some of the best I’ve run across:
"What does the word 'contemplate' mean?", the college student asked his English professor.
"Think about it," the professor answered.
"Ugh!" the student groaned. "Can't you just tell me?"
The original reality TV show
"I love that TV show with all the different video clips of things going disastrously wrong. What’s it called? Oh, yes - the news."
Robert's Philosophy
"I am happy to point people in the right direction, whatever the problem, and my advice is complimentary. You can call or email me and I will answer your questions. Obviously, if you then want me to work on your behalf, I will quote a fee for my services, but don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns."
